Workaround: Installing ColdFusion 7 on Linux
Problem InstallAnywhere installer scripts for several products including ColdFusion fail on some Fedora based Linuxes (in my case OpenSUSE 10.1*) with messages like this:

A Tag, in Any Other Namespace, Would Smell as Sweet
CFIMPORT is very close to being my favourite Coldfusion tag but I've never used it, because no matter how you try to get around it at the end of the day you need to hard-code (i.e at compile time) a directory path for the location of your custom tag library....more

MXDU: Day One, Keynote & Flashers Q&A
MXDU kicked off with a bang this morning with yet another fantastic Flash animation from the guys at Nectarine. This year's Day One movie was inspired by the intro from The Incredibles movie. "Supers" based on Macromedia products were interviewed in the same style as the opening of the movie....

CFMX 7/Blackstone Released

Better than CFDUMP...
Heres a tip that if not better, is at least as handy as cfdump for debugging ColdFusion applications.
There are lots of ways to trace the execution of a ColdFusion request. Originally you could just cfoutput variables and "starting/finishing x" messages to the page....more

getMetaData works on functions
I just noticed something interesting about getMetaData() that might come in handy - if you pass it a function reference (instead of the usual cfc instance) it gives you the metadata of the function - access, name and a parameter array....more
